18 Months

I can't believe that Ellie is 18 months old today. And on Sunday she will be in nursery! She did a trial run last week and had my friend Brenda (the nursery leader) hold her the whole time. So I'm hoping she'll get better! But at least she let us leave her in there . . .that was a start.

Eliza had her 18 month check up today where we learned that she is in the 75-100% percent for HEIGHT and 25% for weight. Tall and skinny. I forget that she is tall because a few of the little girls we spend a lot of time with have a few inches on her and make her appear short. I'm hoping for her sake that she keeps the height as she grows older since I always wanted to make it past 5'3!

She got a couple of shots today that of course made her cry but as soon as the nurse opened the door of the room - Ellie was telling everyone "see ya" and waving through her tears. All the nurses loved that she was crying but still doing those things at the same time! I think she just wanted to get out of there.

She only gets a pacifier at night and naps but 18 months was my maximum on that one. Any ideas for getting rid of it? Should I just go cold turkey or gradually get rid of it?

And just for fun - I wanted to post a picture from this time last year when she was only 6 months old compared to now! I sure miss that chubbiness!

After E turned 1 yr old, she only had a bottle in the morning and one before bed more as a comfort routine. When the Dr told me no more bottles at 13 months I stopped cold turkey and she never even noticed.

I checked your blog with my almost 18 month old and he was hooting and waving at Ellie the whole time...after I left your blog he kept pointing to the screen and when I asked if he wanted to see the pretty baby again he starting frantically shaking his head yes...so we had to look at her pictures again. It must be true love!

P.S The computers were gifts but the winnie the poo one came from walmart I think...even my 3 year old doesn't use it the "right" way but they both love pretending.

Tall and Skinny, she will be grateful for this when she is about 16! When Brady was about 14 months we decided to get rid of the binks so he just got it at naps and bedtime, and gradually he didn't get it during his nap and at about 18 months when Kodi was born and he was trying to talk through it we just yanked it and never looked back! Every kid is different though, so don't get discouraged!Good luck though!

We just pulled Lydia's pacifier cold turkey. I tried the gradual thing with here, and she rebelled. We did the same thing were it was only naps and night, so I tried to do just nights, and it didn't work. In the end I tried the cold turkey thing, and had to be consistent. She had a few hard nights, but nothing too bad. Good luck! She is so cute!

My sister-in-law began cutting little snippets off the bottom of the pacifier and very quickly her little girl realized it was broken. Then she was very willing to help mom throw it away.

Go cold turkey, but explain to her what is going on. "The pacifier is for little babies, and now that you are growing and such a big girl, it's time to stop using it." She might not like it much, but at least she'll understand why she doesn't have it any more, and eventually it won't matter to her. I think sometimes kids get mixed signals if you try to take it away gradually, but that's just my two cents.

Aw the picture of Ellie when she was a baby baby brings back so many memories of our girls when they were little. She is absoulutly darling and I love her cute dress too. Neither of my girls really wanted binkys so I never had a problem with getting them off the binky. My thing is with bottles. Brooklyn takes a bottle in the morn, nap time and at night. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as it's comfort when she's sleeping. You know me and my stand is pretty easy going when it comes to kids and their comfort:).

She has sprouted into a tall munchkin over the year! And she's just so cute! Good luck getting rid of the paci...Ty just spit his out one day and was done, so I have no advice.

wow, already 18 months! As for the pacifier, with Adam I took it away around 2 years:) Anyway, one night he asked for it I just said I don't know where it is, and he forgot about it completely. I realize it's different with every child, he forgot easily when I thought it would be so hard, I had just always given it to him. Also I refused to buy anymore and we ran out basically b/c they get gross or they lost them, etc.

YEAH!! Nursery! It will be interesting for sure! I hope she likes it...McKinley liked it for a month and then hated it for 8 months and now has liked it for a while and is the oldest in there because of her January birthday and loves it!
