Omaha, NE Road Trip

I was really excited when we found out that we would be in Des Moines for the summer because it was within a couple of hours of a lot of great things.  One of those great things was my dear friend Liv!  We became really fast and quick friends when I first moved to Colorado since she lived around the corner and had a girl Eliza's age and was in the ward.  We had weekly get togethers to watch "Psych" and other fun things!  Unfortunately for me, Liv's husband Doug is in the Air Force and they were shipped out only 5 months after we moved to Colorado and sent to Omaha.  Doug's family lives in Colorado Springs so we had seen them on their annual visits to his family but I was thrilled to be able to visit her!  And it turned out that we would be able to come for the weekend for her daughter Ingrid's 7th birthday.

The Hale's were amazing hosts and it was just what I needed!  Liv and I went on a late night donut run (they had Winchell's donuts out there which are my all time favorite cake donut!), went to a great park with the kids, had fun at Ingrid's birthday party, went shopping at an outdoor mall and out to lunch, some Kum & Go soda runs, and watched fireworks out on their deck (it was a few days before the 4th of July and gigantic fireworks are commonly sold).  Such a fun weekend along with some late night talks!

Asher LOVED the foam pit!

Summer Fun List

I was not sure what to expect for a summer of living in a new place and also wanted to make sure my kids had a good time.  I decided to make a summer fun list and we had a new theme for each day.  They were:

Make Something Monday
Treat Tuesday
Water Wednesday
Try Something New Thursday
Friday Fun
Saturday is a Special Day

I then made a list of all the places we wanted to check out in the area like parks, dessert places,  etc.

In June we did:

A craft project -

Tried out the best cupcake place called Scratch (we ended up visiting this place OFTEN throughout the summer - the cupcakes were only $2 and many times on Saturday night they would be $1!):

Tried out a new splash park:

Went to a indoor bounce place:

Tried a local donut shop:

Did some more crafts:

And went to the Des Moines Science Center:

Iowa Bound (for the Summer)!

Rob headed out to Des Moines, Iowa for his job at the end of April and after 7 weeks of being a single mom - we were all ready to join him for part of the summer.   It was less than a 10 hour drive out to Des Moines and the kids did so amazing.  I really am so lucky to have good road trip kids!  We made one stop for a late lunch, a couple of quick gas station/bathroom breaks, and then stopped for about an hour at the Winter Quarters Temple and Visitors Center.  The kids had a lot of fun playing at the visitors center and I enjoyed seeing it since the last time I went through this area - the Visitors Center was not that great.

Then it was off to our new apartment for the summer in Des Moines.  In our married life, we have never lived in an apartment so it was an adventure to be on the 3rd floor of an apartment and have 3 kids.  Never a dull moment in our lives!

Singers Company Spring Show - Princess Show!

I wrapped up another semester of Singers Company at the beginning of June!  The show was all about being a princess (but the great qualities of a princess and how we can all sparkle and shine!).  This spring group was quite a mix of personalities that many times had me questioning what I was doing!  But there were some amazing moments and memories made with them too and I'm glad I have this opportunity.

The Circus Comes to Town!

We were given tickets to the Ringling Brothers circus at the beginning of June and Rob happened to be in town so we all went to the circus!  It was pretty fun.  We were able to see the pre-show and get up close and personal to some of the performers.  Poor Asher was sick though with a double ear infection so we only made it half way through the show.  The highlight for him was having some $10 cotton candy - his first experience with the stuff.   (Excuse the poor quality iPhone pics!)

Uncle Kory Visits!

My brother Kory came out here for a few days while he was working at one of the Color Run events here in Colorado Springs.  The first night he was here was a Tuesday and $2 Tuesday at the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and they happened to be playing the Tacoma Rainiers (farm team for the Seattle Mariners and a team that we watched often growing up).  So we headed over for a fun night!

Kory was busy working most of the rest of the week but we did get to run the Color Run (I ran it with all the kids!) and the kids did great and loved being covered in colors.

Later that day we went swimming with Uncle Kory at his hotel (didn't take any pictures of this).
